The Ultimate Exterior Checklist Before Each Season

|

Exterior inspections and checkups are a great way to ensure the protection of your home. At CR3 American Exteriors, we recommend doing these inspections seasonally. This helps to catch small issues before they spiral into more costly damage.

In this blog we will take a look at a checklist to use throughout the year.

Spring Checklist
As winter fades, you can inspect (or call us for a free inspection for) your roof. Following the snowy moths is a great time to search for lifted shingles, missing granules, and any signs of moisture intrusion in the attic or roof interior. You can also check the flashing around chimneys and the vents for gaps. When it comes to your siding, look for cracks or warping that may have formed due to temperature changes. Ensure your gutters are clean and that the downspouts are directing water away from your foundation. Trim branches that hang near your roof since they can scrape surfaces.

Fall Checklist
Before the colder months, make sure your roof is ready for heavy rain and frost. Inspect shingles for curling or soft areas. Make sure there are no gaps that will allow cold air in or heat out.Look for fading or bubbling siding or mold growth; these can indicate moisture problems. Clean fallen leaves from gutters to prevent blockages. This reduces the risk of ice forming and ice dams.

Winter Checklist
Winter weather can be harsh, so your final seasonal check is essential. Look for any roof areas where snow or ice might accumulate.Confirm your attic ventilation is clear to prevent ice dams. Inspect siding for any loose panels that might pull away in high winds. Ensure gutters are free of debris and secure to handle the weight of snow and ice. Walk around the exterior of your home and look for drainage issues so melting snow does not pool near your foundation.

Summer Checklist

Summer heat and storms can put a lot of stress on your exterior. Check your roof for curling shingles. Ensure flashing and sealants have not weakened. Remove any debris following to make sure they are ready for summer storms. Trim back branches to improve airflow and prevent damage during high winds.
